Westchester County has some of the most varied garage door configurations in our service area — from the older attached garages in Yonkers and Mount Vernon to the newer three-car carriage-house doors in Scarsdale and Bronxville. GarageGuard provides same-day garage door repair throughout Westchester, with technicians who know the county’s housing stock.
What we repair in Westchester
Spring and cable replacement — The most urgent repair in any market. Westchester homes built in the 1970s–1990s often have their original springs, and spring failures are our most common emergency call in the county. We stock springs for the full range of residential door sizes common in Westchester, from compact single-car doors in Yonkers rowhouses to heavy three-car insulated doors in Armonk.
High-cycle spring upgrades — For high-use households (families with multiple drivers, doors that open 8–10 times a day), we often recommend upgrading to 25,000-cycle springs at replacement time. In a busy Westchester household, this can mean 12+ years before the next spring replacement versus 5–6 years with standard springs.
Opener upgrade and installation — A large percentage of our Westchester service calls involve replacing 15–20-year-old chain-drive openers with quiet modern belt-drives. For homes where the garage is adjacent to a bedroom or living space (common in Westchester colonials), the difference in noise from a modern opener is dramatic. We install LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie belt-drive systems.
Carriage-house door service — Westchester has a high concentration of carriage-house style doors — composite overlay, natural wood, and modern aluminum-glass doors. These doors often have heavier panel weights and tighter hardware tolerances than standard steel doors. We’re experienced with the full range of carriage-house door hardware and can service Wayne Dalton, Clopay, and Amarr carriage-house systems.
Panel replacement — Westchester’s residential garage doors tend to be higher-end than average, which means panel replacement (versus full door replacement) is more commonly cost-justified. We can source replacement panels for most Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, and C.H.I. doors installed within the last 15 years.

Specific challenges in Westchester garages
Low-headroom situations. Westchester has many older homes where the garage door header is close to the ceiling, leaving only 6–8 inches of clearance above the door. Standard openers require 10–12 inches. We have extensive experience with low-headroom hardware kits and jackshaft (wall-mount) openers that work in these tight conditions.
Three-car garage configurations. Larger homes in Scarsdale, Armonk, and Bedford often have three-car garages, sometimes with three individual doors, sometimes with a double door and a single. Each configuration has different spring and track requirements. We spec and install accordingly.
Historic homes with non-standard openings. Older homes in areas like Pelham, Larchmont, and Dobbs Ferry sometimes have non-standard opening widths or heights from pre-sectional-door eras. We can adapt modern doors and hardware to unusual openings or advise on the most practical path.
Power outages. Westchester experiences more power outages than most of our coverage area, due to tree canopy and older infrastructure. We frequently get calls after major storms from homeowners whose car is trapped and whose battery backup has died. We can help set up battery backup systems that will open your door through a 24-hour outage.
